LARDIN Explores Collaboration in Native Plant Conservation at Maryland Native Plant Society Meeting

Location: Rockville Memorial Library, Second Floor, 21 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, Maryland 20850
Event: Montgomery County Chapter Planning Meeting
Organization: Maryland Native Plant Society (MNPS)

LARDIN was pleased to participate in the second monthly planning meeting of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Maryland Native Plant Society (MNPS), held at Rockville Memorial Library in Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting brought together individuals committed to building a vibrant community dedicated to promoting awareness, appreciation, and conservation of native plants throughout Montgomery County and surrounding areas.

Discussions focused on strengthening the chapter’s community network, establishing a group communication platform, planning educational field trips, and developing educational and social activities for the coming season.

During the meeting, Geraldine D. Musi, Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Action and Royal Development Initiatives (LARDIN), engaged the guest speaker, Ms. Naomi Edelson, Senior Director of Wildfire Partnerships at the National Wildlife Federation, on opportunities to expand native plant education and conservation among local residents, particularly young people and families.

Geraldine inquired about opportunities to organize native plant education sessions and demonstration activities that would help residents understand the importance of native plants, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship. Ms. Edelson shared information about a program that works through congregations, which LARDIN will explore as a potential avenue for community engagement and educational collaboration.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of engaging more diverse communities and families in native plant conservation, ensuring that environmental education and conservation opportunities are accessible and inclusive.

Opportunities for LARDIN
Building on this engagement, LARDIN sees potential opportunities to:

  • Organize native plant education and demonstration activities for local residents and young people.
  • Explore congregation-based programs as a pathway to environmental education and community participation.
  • Promote native plant awareness through schools, youth groups, families, and community organizations.
  • Encourage participation from diverse communities in conservation activities.
  • Explore partnerships that connect environmental sustainability, biodiversity protection, and community-led education.

As the Montgomery County Chapter continues to develop its plans and activities, LARDIN looks forward to exploring meaningful opportunities for collaboration that align with its commitment to environmental protection, education, and inclusive community development.

LARDIN believes that protecting our environment begins with education, community participation, and partnerships that inspire people to take action.
